Former WC pitchers selected in MLB Draft

Former WC pitchers selected in MLB Draft

Two former Weatherford College pitchers were selected in the Major League Baseball Draft on Tuesday. The Texas Rangers selected Paul Bonzagni in the 12th round, and the Minnesota Twins drafted Kade Bragg in the 17th round.

45 current or former WC players have been drafted since the program began in 2003.

Bonzagni is currently a student-athlete at Southern Illinois University. The Southlake Carroll High School graduate was an All-Missouri Valley Conference honoree in the 2023 season, going 8-4 with a 4.94 earned run average. Coming out of the bullpen, he tied for the conference lead in MVC appearances (13).

Bragg was named NCAA Division II National Pitcher of the Year for his season at Angelo State University. The junior from Ennis led the nation in victories with a 15-1 overall record, setting the Lone Star Conference record for wins in a season. He had a 1.20 ERA in 104 2/3 innings pitched.
