Smith, Smoot Double up as DAC Players of Week

Dallas College Richland's Trey Smith and Jacob Smoot were named the Dallas Athletic Conference Baseball Players of the Week. Smith was chosen as the Hitter of the Week, while Smoot was picked as the Pitcher of the Week.

It is the second time this season Smith has won the league's weekly award.

A freshman outfielder from San Antonio, Smith batted .500 with three doubles, two home runs, four runs batted in, six runs scored and a walk as the Thunderducks went 3-1 last week. In a doubleheader sweep of Redlands Community College, he was 3-for-7 with a double, homer and three RBI. Smith went 2-for-4 with a solo shot in a 6-3 loss to No. 7 Joliet Junior College. He ended the week with two doubles in three at-bats in a 4-3 win over McCook Community College.

Smith is hitting .479 with 10 home runs, 35 RBI and 11 doubles. He leads the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III in home runs, is second in RBI and tied for sixth in doubles.

A sophomore left hander from Burleson, Texas, Smoot struck out a career-high 12 batters, and allowed three hits and two walks, without surrendering a run in six innings to get the win in a 14-0 victory over Redlands. He improved to 4-1 with a 3.09 earned run average and 33 strikeouts in 32 innings pitched this season.

Smoot's four victories are tied for third among NJCAA Division III leaders. His 33 strikeouts are ninth in the country.
