Kirtley, Carpenter Chosen as DAC Baseball Players of the Week

Kirtley, Carpenter Chosen as DAC Baseball Players of the Week

Dallas College North Lake's Branden Kirtley and Dallas College Cedar Valley's Hayden Carpenter were named the Dallas Athletic Conference's Players of the Week.

Kirtley was chosen the DAC Pitcher of the Week.

A freshman right hander from Santa Rosa, California, Kirtley tossed a complete game shutout with 10 strikeouts in a 10-0 win over Dallas College Mountain View as the Blazers salvaged one of the three games in the league series. Kirtley went seven innings, scattering three hits and allowing three walks, while recording double digit strikeouts for the first time as a Blazer. His 10 strikeouts are a season high.

He improved to 3-3 with two saves and 50 strikeouts in 48.1 innings pitched this season.

North Lake (19-25, 9-12 DAC) hosts Paris Junior College Monday before beginning a three-game DAC series at home against Dallas College Brookhaven (19-23, 10-11) noon Wednesday.

Carpenter was named the DAC Hitter of the Week.

A freshman outfielder from Magnolia, Texas, Carpenter batted .353, going 6-for-17 in five games as the Suns won the first four of five games on the schedule last week. He also had two home runs, a double, nine runs batted in, six runs scored and five walks, including three intentional passes. He hit .417 in conference games going 5-for-12 in a three-game series with No. 2 nationally-ranked Dallas College Eastfield – an opponent the Suns knocked off twice.

Carpenter homered twice in the series-clinching 15-3 Game 2 victory over the Harvester Bees Thursday. One of his bombs was a grand slam, and the other a walk-off, three-run blast in the eighth inning as Cedar Valley won their fourth consecutive game of the week. He drove in a season-high seven runs in that game, going 2-for-4 with three runs scored. He also had two hits and an RBI in the 17-11 series-opening win over Eastfield, and hit safely in all three games in the series, including a double in the 11-4 Game 3 loss.

This season, Carpenter is batting .384 with nine homers, 11 doubles and 47 RBI. His nine home runs are eighth among NJCAA Division III leaders.

Cedar Valley (22-21, 6-15 DAC) plays a doubleheader at Southwestern Assemblies of God University Junior Varsity Monday before beginning a three-game series 12 p.m. Wednesday at home against Dallas College Mountain View (13-25, 3-18).
