SPC men, El Paso women run to Region V Cross Country titles

The 2017 Region V Cross Country Championships were held Oct. 28 at South Plains College in Levelland.

For the men, South Plains won the team championship with 21 points, El Paso Community College was second with 54, Ranger was third with 65, Western Texas College was fourth with 72, and Odessa College was fifth with 148.

South Plains had seven of the top ten individual finishers. Felix Kosgei was first and Andrew Bosquez was second. El Paso's Michael Kirwa and Sammy Rono finished third and fourth respectively. Ranger had two runners in the top ten, with Western Texas adding one.

For the women, El Paso finished first with 31 points, New Mexico Junior College was second with 47, Ranger was third with 68, New Mexico Military Institute was fourth with 101, and Odessa was fifth with 114.

Shalet Mitei of El Paso was first overall, while Esther Gitahi of New Mexico JC finished second. South Plains' Leslie Romero and Seselia Dala were third and fourth respectively. El Paso and NMJC each added two more runners in the top ten, while South Plains and Ranger each added one.
