WC sweeps Ranger in softball series

WC sweeps Ranger in softball series

The Weatherford College softball team swept Ranger in a four-game series on Thursday and Friday. The Coyotes scored 54 runs over four games. All four games ended early due to the run rule. 

In the first game on Thursday in Ranger, WC scored a whopping 10 runs in the top of the sixth inning alone in a 14-0 win. Lilly Bean went 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI and a walk. Sadie Reed was 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs. Lindsey Oliver held the Rangers to three hits over six innings, with no runs, one walk and four strikeouts. 

WC out-hit Ranger 20-7 in game two, leading to an 18-5 final. The Coyotes scored three runs in the first, six in the second and eight in the fourth. Three Weatherford players had three hits: Alexah Reyes (3-for-5), Jillian Franco (3-for-4) and Bean (3-for-4). Kaela Gillis and Bean hit home runs. 

The series moved to WC's Stuart Field on Friday, and the Coyotes won the third game 10-1. Weatherford scored three runs in the first inning and six more in the third. Bean and Franco each went 2-for-3. Oliver gave up six hits, one earned run and one walk with two strikeouts. 

The Coyotes won the finale 12-1. Franco drove in four runs on two hits, including a two-run home run in the third inning. Bean went 3-for-3 with an RBI. Isabella Alosi earned the win with four hits, one run, one walk and one strikeout. 

WC improved to 27-19 overall and 15-13 in conference play. Weatherford faces Hill College in the final series of the regular season with a doubleheader in Hillsboro on Wednesday and a home series on Saturday, April 27, beginning at noon.
