SPC's Keke Hunter named NJCAA Women's Basketball National Player of the Week

After opening the season with three consecutive double-double performances, South Plains sophomore Keke Hunter was named the NJCAA women's basketball National Player of the Week on Wednesday.

Hunter averaged 17.7 points and 14.7 rebounds per game in the Lady Texans' first three contest in Odessa including a 24 point, 17 rebound performance against Colorado Northwestern on Nov. 2. Hunter tallied 16 points and 16 boards on Nov. 1 against Tohono O'odham, and capped the weekend with a 13 point, 11 rebound outing in the Lady Texans' 56'38 victory over Mesa College.

A six-foot sophomore from Hot Springs, Arkansas, Hunter currently ranks first in the country in total rebounds (44), second in offensive rebounds (22), and fourth in the country in blocked shots (7).

The No. 15 ranked Lady Texans will be back on the road this weekend when they travel to Seward County Community College for the Pepsi Classic. South Plains will matchup with Seward County on Nov. 9 at 6 p.m., followed by a matchup with Dodge City on Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. Both games will be streaming live at spctexans.com
