Region V has 3 earn All-America honors

Three Region V volleyball players were named to the 2022-23 NJCAA Division I All-America teams recently.

 

Named to the first-team All-America squad were New Mexico Junior College's Iva Popovic and New Mexico Military Institute libero Mio Yamamoto.

A 5-11 sophomore outside hitter from Belgrade, Serbia, Popovic starred for the Lady Thunderbirds this season. The WJCAC MVP, Popovic recorded 497 kills (the third-most in the NJCAA) and 355 digs in the regular season. She finished with 554 points (fifth most in the NJCAA).

A 5-5 sophomore from Chigasaki, Kanagawa, Japan, Yamamoto finished the year 904 digs and 48 service aces this season en route to claiming all-conference honors.

Vernon College's Danika Washington was selected to the Division I All-America second-team roster.

A 6-foot sophomore middle blocker from Benbrook, Texas, Washington was one of the major stars in the NTJCAC this season. She finished the season with 281 kills.
