WC sweeps first two rounds, to play for title Friday night
The Weatherford College volleyball team advanced to the championship match with two sweeps in the Region V Tournament at the Betty Jo Graber Athletic Center on Thursday.
No. 1 seed WC (31-3) will play No. 3 seed Odessa College (29-5) Friday night at 7 p.m. for the tournament championship. The winner will advance to the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas.
Weatherford opened the tournament Thursday afternoon with a sweep of Western Texas College, 25-19, 25-11, 25-16.
Later that night, WC took out New Mexico Junior College, the number two seed with a No. 9 national ranking. WC won the high-energy match 25-20, 25-21, 25-20.
Odessa upset New Mexico Military Institute with a three-set to-one win in the semifinals. NMMI was the No. 1 seed from the west with a No. 6 national ranking.
