Van Der Lelie leads Hill to win by hurling perfect game

Van Der Lelie leads Hill to win by hurling perfect game

Jelle Van der Lelie became the poster boy for perfection on Feb. 13 in front of a small home crowd at Rebel Field. Literally.

Van der Lelie led the Hill College Rebels to a 5-0 victory by hurling a perfect game in the opening game of a doubleheader against over Bossier Parrish Community College. Van Der Lelie retired all 21 batters he faced in the 7-inning gem.

A 6-4 righthander for The Netherlands, Van der Lelie did more than just throw a perfect game. He dominated BPCC en route to helping the Rebels improve to 10-4. Of the 21 batters he faced, 14 were retired via strikeouts.

After battling to a 0-0 deadlock through the first four innings, the Rebels gave Van Der Lelie all the offense he would need in the fifth. Hill College scored three times in the frame and staked their ace to a comfortable lead. The Rebels tacked on another run in the sixth.

In his next outing, on Feb. 18 against Hutchinson Community College, he was almost as unhittable. He worked six innings, allowing just two hits. Unfortunately for Van der Lelie, the Dragons roughed up the HC bullpen late and escaped with an 8-1 victory.
