SPC's Joniar Thomas picks up National award
Joniar Thomas made the most of her first opportunity in a South Plains College uniform on Feb. 6 at the Angelo State Indoor/Outdoor, soaring 19' 5.5" in the women's long jump to earn the freshman United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Week honors.
Thomas' mark is the top jump in the country to date in the NJCAA. Thomas also recorded a mark of 19' 0.75" at Angelo State, which would have also taken the national lead. Thomas is the fifth Lady Texan to earn National Athlete of the Week honors from the USTFCCCA.
