Vernon College sophomore Zac Skinner named All-American

Vernon College sophomore Zak Skinner was named to the NJCAA Division 1 All-American third-team catcher. This prestigious recognition is a testament to Zak's exceptional skills, dedication, and hard work throughout the season.

The NJCAA Division 1 All-American Team recognizes outstanding players from colleges nationwide who have demonstrated exceptional talent, sportsmanship, and leadership on the field. A panel of coaches and industry experts selects for this honor, making it a highly coveted accolade within the baseball community.

Skinner's performance during the season was nothing short of remarkable. As the team's catcher, he displayed an exceptional command of the game, displaying both defensive excellence and offensive prowess. He consistently exhibited strong leadership qualities and was crucial to the team's success.

Skinner hit .447 for the year in 2023 and .417 in 2022. He hit 10 home runs to lead the team and had 21 doubles. He had 85 total hits for the year and is one of the career leaders in hits at Vernon College.

Vernon College Athletic Director Jason Jenkins praised Skinner's accomplishments.

"Zak is what you hope for in a student-athlete. Obviously, he took care of business on the field and did so in the classroom," he said. "Zak assumed a leadership role from the minute he stepped on campus. Wherever he lands, that institution will be better immediately."

Jenkins added that the college takes immense pride in its student-athletes who excel academically and athletically, and Skinner's honor exemplifies this standard of excellence.
