Do, Hockemeyer Chosen DAC Players of Week

Do, Hockemeyer Chosen DAC Players of Week

Dallas College Eastfield's Tyler Do and Dallas College Richland's Nick Hockemeyer were selected the Dallas Athletic Conference Baseball Players of the Week.

A freshman from Sugar Land, Texas, Do was chosen the DAC Pitcher of the Week.

He went the distance in a 16-1 seven-inning win at Dallas College North Lake Saturday. He allowed four hits, a run and no walks, and struck out four to improve to 7-0 this season. It was his first complete game of his college career.

Do's seven wins are tied for the most in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III. He lowered his earned run average to 4.26, and now has 36 strikeouts in 44.1 innings pitched.

Ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA Division III poll, Eastfield (32-7, 14-1 DAC) begins the second half of conference play at Dallas College Brookhaven (18-17, 9-6) Wednesday at noon.

Hockemeyer was selected as the Dallas Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week.

It is the second time this season he has been chosen for the award.

A freshman outfielder from Fort Wayne, Indiana, Hockemeyer batted 9-for-14 for a .643 average, with three home runs, two doubles, 11 runs batted in and six runs scored as No. 5 Richland swept a three-game series from Dallas College Cedar Valley last week. He had three hits in each of the Thunderducks' three wins, homered once in the opener, twice in the finale and doubled twice in the middle game. Hockemeyer drove in a season-high six runs in the 26-10 Game 3 series final game, and had two or more RBI in all three games. His home runs were his first of the season.

Hockemeyer is hitting .406, with 16 doubles and 45 RBI.

Richland (26-11, 12-3) will open the second half of league play at Dallas College Mountain View (11-20, 1-14) at noon Wednesday.
