Watkins named WJCAC Baseball Player of the Week
Grant Watkins of Amarillo College has been selected the Western Junior College Athletic Conference's Baseball Player of the Week.
A sophomore first baseman from Richland, Washington, Watkins was named the WJCAC Position Player of the Week after turning out a stellar week for AC. Overall he batted .538 with a double, 3 home run and nine RBI.
Watkins began the Badgers' series against Midland College with his third multi-homer game of 2024. He hit two home runs off Chapparal ace Tyler Boudreau, a Texas Tech baseball signee, en route to a 10-1 victory. Watkins tallied three homers, two doubles, and finished the four-game set with seven hits in 13 at-bats. He recorded a 1.385 slugging percentage against Midland College. Watkins' 15 homers this season is tied for the ninth-highest total in NJCAA D-I and the second-best mark in Region V and the WJCAC.
