Eastfield Clinches Third Straight DAC Title

Eastfield Clinches Third Straight DAC Title

Three for the Bees.

Dallas College Eastfield's third-ranked baseball team won its third straight Dallas Athletic Conference regular season championship Wednesday after run-ruling host Dallas College North Lake, 12-1, in seven innings.

The Harvester Bees (42-11, 23-5 DAC) will host the double-elimination portion of the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III South Central District Tournament next Thursday-Saturday at the Hive.

Eastfield, which has won 40-plus games for the past three seasons, wasted little time jumping all over the Blazers (24-30, 13-15) in Wednesday's series opener. The Bees scored four runs in the first inning on their way to putting runs on the board in each of their first five at-bats. They led, 11-0, after the top of the fifth concluded. North Lake's lone run came in the bottom half of the inning, and that was all starter Teagan Rehwald surrendered to pick up his second victory on the mound.

John Jackson's double to left with two outs in the first scored Payton Poole to give the Harvesters a four-run lead. After the Bees picked up two more on a failed pickoff attempt with two outs in the second, Michael Caputo extended the lead to 7-0 in the third on an RBI single to right to bring home JJ Bush.

Poole drove in a run one inning later when he grounded a ball up the middle, allowing Garret Hendricks to score. That made it 8-0. Josh Jackson's sacrifice fly to right allowed River Curs to trot home, and Billy Spratt doubled to right to drive in Poole and Aubrey Whitehead for an 11-0 lead.

North Lake's Eric De Anda grounded a ball to the left side with two outs in the fourth to bring home Michael Holden for the Blazers' lone run.

Poole was 2-for-3 with three RBI. Hendricks went 2-for-4. Jackson and Spratt both drove in a pair, while Caputo had one RBI.

Rehwald went five innings, allowing six hits, a run and three walks. Ryan Johnston did not yield a run over the final two innings, allowing a hit and a walk, while fanning two.

Joseph Binder had two of North Lake's seven hits – only one for an extra base.

Eastfield will host North Lake Friday and Saturday at noon to wrap up the regular season.
