New WC men’s tennis team finishes 11th at nationals
The Weatherford College men's tennis team finished 11th out of 29 teams at the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I National Tournament held May 13-17 in Plano.
WC's Bruno Britez finished as a semifinalist in Flight 1 singles. Britez, a native of Paraguay and a transfer from Wichita State University, won his first three matches. He lost in the semifinals to eventual national champion Hugo Car of Eastern Florida State College.
Another Coyote, Alexis Leguizamon, advanced to the quarterfinals in Flight 2. Also from Paraguay, Leguizamon won two matches in the rounds of 32 and 16.
Tyler Junior College won the team national title followed by Cowley College (Kansas) and Eastern Florida. Host Collin College was fourth.
This was the first year for WC's relaunched men's tennis program after being dormant for several decades.
