Brookhaven No. 2 Seed at Next Week's National Tournament
Dallas College Brookhaven women's soccer team will meet Ocean County College in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III quarterfinals next Wednesday in Batavia, New York. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT.
The three-time defending national champion Bears (11-2-3) are the No. 2 seed in the national tournament. Ocean County (10-3-1) is the No. 7 seed. The tournament will air on the NJCAA Network. Live Stats are also available.
Ranked No. 2 in the country under first-year head coach Alex Denning, Brookhaven is coming off a 2-0 win over seventh-ranked Dallas College Richland in the South District championship. The Bears have won their past seven matches – all by shutouts. Brookhaven has 10 shutouts this season.
Bears freshman goalkeeper Brianna Flores' 10 shutouts are tied for the most in the nation. Her 11 wins are tied for second. Her .0.56 goals against average is fifth nationally, and her .866 save percentage ranks 13th in NJCAA Division III. Freshman forward Gianna Antovoni leads the Bears with eight goals and nine assists for 25 points. Freshman forward Lauren Moore has seven goals and an assist for 15 points. Freshman midfielder Daniela Porto has four goals and seven assists for 15 points. Sophomore forward Gracie Murillo has five goals and four assists for 14 points.
Ocean County's Danna Katherin Munoz is third in the country in assists (15) and 12th in points (37). Rory Hagen has 11 goals and four assists for 26 points. Goalkeeper Madison Todd (6-3-1) owns a 0.95 GAA and .700 save percentage. She has six shutouts.
Brookhaven captured its fifth national championship last year.
