2023-23 Region V Women's Tennis

The Weatherford College women's tennis team defeated one of the top teams in the country over the weekend. The Coyotes beat Collin College on their home courts in Plano, 5-4 on March 2. 

Collin is ranked No. 7 in the nation and Weatherford is No. 8 according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's NJCAA rankings. 

WC came out firing, winning two out of three doubles matches before heading into singles play. Hoziane Kitambala and Carmine Becoude secured the win at No. 1 doubles and the No. 2 team of Tsitsi Claire Mahere and Sanja Djurdjevic jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. 

In singles, WC had wins at lines No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4. Kitambala came back from a set down to win at No. 2, Mahere started off hot and held tough for the win at No. 3 and Djurdjevic took care of business handily at No. 4. 

WC and Collin have qualified to compete in the NJCAA Division I National Tournament May 4-8 in Tyler.
