Coyotes clinch third straight conference volleyball title
Three seasons, three conference championships.
With three regular season matches remaining, the Weatherford College volleyball team clinched at least a share of the 2024 Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference (NTJCAC) title Wednesday night with a sweep at Ranger College.
The Coyotes have won conference titles in all three years of the program's existence: 2022, 2023 and now 2024.
WC, ranked No. 6 in the nation, improved to 24-5 overall and 11-0 in NTJCAC play. The win over Ranger was Weatherford's 13th straight and their 15th sweep of the season.
The Coyotes won the first set 25-14, the second set 25-21 and 25-16 in the third.
Weronika Urbanska led the WC offense with 10 kills and added nine digs. Gabriela Maldonado and Abby Hellman had seven kills each.
Lorena Gomez had a whopping 22 assists in the match. Victoria Sanchez added nine.
Kiana Souza tallied 11 digs. Grace Owens had nine.
Weatherford will host North Central Texas College on Saturday at the Graber Athletic Center in a match beginning at 1 p.m. NCTC is the only conference opponent to take WC to five sets this season, a 3 sets to 2 Weatherford victory in Gainesville on Oct. 2.
